It is rich in fatty acids 70%and gamma linoleic acid (GLA) 9%, an essential fatty acid that is vital to cell and body functions and not produced by the body itself. Clinical studies and grassroots research in Great Britain and the United States have demonstrated evening primrose oil's effect as a free radical scavenger and verified its effectiveness in treating endometriosis, menstrual difficulties, high blood cholesterol, and abnormal cell growth in the breasts, ovaries and uterus. The oil can be used externally, ingested in capsule form.
