Botanical Name Amyris Balsamifera, extracted from Sandalwood's wood by steam distillation. It is probably best know as a perfume, toiletries and as a cosmetic ingredient. The oil contains santalol (up to 90%), pinene, santalic acid, terasantalic acid and santalone, etc., and varies from yellowish to a deep brown. It is extremely thick and viscous, and the odour, although not initially strong, develops when applied to the skin, and is amazingly persistent.
